Biografía. Margarita, nacida en el Hospital Anglo-Americano de Roma,  es hija de Juan de Borbón y Battenberg, conde de Barcelona, y de María de las Mercedes de Borbón y Orleans, y por ello hermana de Juan Carlos I, Alfonso de Borbón y de la infanta Pilar, así como tía del actual monarca español Felipe VI.
Early life. Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna Romanova of Russia was born on 16 February 1786 in Saint Petersburg as the fifth child and third daughter of Tsesarevich Paul Petrovich of Russia and his second wife, Tsesarevna Maria Feodorovna (1754–1801), born Duchess Sophie Dorothea of Württemberg (1759–1828).
Maria Feodorovna's birthday was a week after the funeral, and as it was a day in which court mourning could be somewhat relaxed, Nicholas used the day to marry Alix of Hesse-Darmstadt, who took the name Alexandra Feodorovna. As Empress Dowager, Maria was much more popular than either Nicholas or Alexandra.
