Margaret Brooke MBE (April 10, 1915 – January 9, 2016), served as a nursing sister during the Second World War rising to the rank of lieutenant commander in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). Following the war, she earned a bachelor's degree and then a PhD in paleontology , serving as an instructor and researcher at the University of Saskatchewan 's Department of Geological Sciences.

HMCS Margaret Brooke has already been hard-at-work, deploying on Operation NANOOK in August 2022, and on Operation LENTUS in September 2022. On October 28, 2022, the Royal Canadian Navy HMCS Margaret Brooke AOPS into naval service with a commissioning ceremony.

Her brother Hewitt and his wife, Marian, also both served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. 16 de jul. de 2021 · The future HMCS Margaret Brooke will remain docked at Jetty NJ at the CFB Halifax Dockyard while post-acceptance work and final ship preparation work are completed. A naming ceremony for the ship is expected to be held later in 2021, with a formal commissioning ceremony expected in fall 2022 as the ship officially enters into active RCN service.
