Margaret Butler in 1930. Butler's works were feature at the National Centennial Exhibition of New Zealand in 1940 and the largest collection of her work is held by Te Papa Tongarewa, the Museum of New Zealand. In 2023 her work was included in the exhibition In the Round: Portraits by Women Sculptors at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery.
Margaret Butler passed away March 8, 2013, one day after her 89 th birthday, but her legacy as the first female ANS Fellow will serve as a model for generations of women scientists to come. Lady Margaret Butler. Lady Margaret Butler was born at Kilkenny Castle, Kilkenny, Ireland, somewhere between 1454 and 1465. She was the daughter of Thomas Butler, 7th Earl of Ormond, (known as “The Wool Earl”) and his first wife, Anne Hankford, and her paternal grandparents were James Butler, 4th Earl of Ormonde, and Joan Beauchamp.

Lady Margaret Boleyn was an Irish noblewoman, the daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Butler, 7th Earl of Ormond. She married Sir William Boleyn and through her eldest son Sir Thomas Boleyn, was the paternal grandmother of Anne Boleyn, second wife of King Henry VIII of England, and great-grandmother of Anne and Henry's daughter, Elizabeth I of England.
