3 de may. de 2024 · The surviving "Lennox Jewel" now in the Royal Collection and displayed at Holyrood Palace is a propaganda jewel of this type, thought to have been commissioned by Mary's mother-in-law Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox.

Hace 1 día · Both Mary and Darnley were grandchildren of Margaret Tudor, sister of Henry VIII of England, and patrilineal descendants of the High Stewards of Scotland. Darnley shared a more recent Stewart lineage with the Hamilton family as a descendant of Mary Stewart, Countess of Arran, a daughter of James II of Scotland.
27 de abr. de 2024 · It is thought to have been commissioned by Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox, to commemorate the assassinations of her son, Mary, Queen of Scots’s unreliable husband Henry, Lord Darnley, and of Margaret’s husband, Matthew, Regent Lennox.
The claim then passed to John Hamilton, 1st Marquess of Hamilton, who was married to Lady Margaret Lyon, a staunch Protestant. The only issue with John Hamilton is that he was an unknown Scottish noble. John Hamilton also died in 1604, making his son, James Hamilton ("Lord Aven"), the 2nd Marquess of Hamilton and 4th Earl of Arran.
