Margaret Stanley, Countess of Derby (née Lady Margaret Clifford; 1540 – 28 September 1596) was the only surviving daughter of Henry Clifford, 2nd Earl of Cumberland and Lady Eleanor Brandon. Her maternal grandparents were Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk and Mary Tudor, Queen of France.

In February 1555, the fifteen-year-old Margaret married Henry Stanley, Earl of Derby, at the chapel royal at Whitehall Palace. He was nine years her senior and was related by blood to the Howard dukes of Norfolk. He had attended Edward VI’s coronation and served as a gentleman of the privy chamber.

24 de abr. de 2020 · After the succession crisis involving Lady Jane Grey, Henry VIII’s daughter Mary became the new queen and she had the Duke of Northumberland executed and other Dudley family members imprisoned. An agreement was made to marry Margaret to Henry Stanley, Lord Strange, the heir to the Earl of Derby.
