Margaret was the youngest daughter of the Elector Joachim I of Brandenburg (1484–1535) from his marriage to Elisabeth (1485–1555), daughter of King John of Denmark. Duchess of Pomerania. She married her first husband on 23 January 1530 in Berlin Duke George I of Pomerania (1493–1531).

Margaret of Brandenburg-Salzwedel (German: Margareta, Polish: Małgorzata; born ca. 1270 – died 1 May 1315) was a German noblewoman member of the House of Ascania and by her two marriages Duchess of Greater Poland (during 1293–1296), Queen of Poland (during 1295–1296) and Duchess of Saxe-Lauenburg (during 1302–1308).

She married on 20 September 1477 in Prenzlau with Duke Bogislaw X of Pomerania (1454–1523). In 1474, Brandenburg had begun a war against Pomerania, because Bogislaw refused to pay homage to Frederick II. On 1 May 1476, during the peace negotiations, it had been decided that Bogislaw would marry Margaret. The marriage was burdensome on Bogislaw.
