Maria Pypelinckx (20 March 1538 – 19 October 1608) was a writer from the Southern Netherlands, best known today as the mother of the painter Peter Paul Rubens.

Su padre, Jan Rubens, abogado y concejal de Amberes, había huido de Bélgica en 1568 con su esposa, Maria Pypelinckx, y sus cuatro hijos para escapar de la persecución religiosa por sus creencias calvinistas.
He returned north in 1557 and set up his practise in Antwerp where he married Maria Pypelinckx in 1558. On 7 May 1562 he became magistrate of Antwerp and served until 1568, when he fled to Cologne with his family, probably to avoid the Council of Troubles .

Philip was born on 27 April 1574 in the city of Siegen to Jan Rubens and Maria Pypelincks. His parents had fled with their families from Antwerp in the Habsburg Netherlands to Cologne in 1568 because they feared persecution as Calvinists in their homeland.
