The date of her death is also uncertain, as 19 March 1205 is also given in some accounts. The Novgorod First Chronicle mentions her death under the year 1205, but does not give an exact day. Maria Shvarnovna was the first wife of Vsevolod III "Big Nest", and gave birth to at least 14 children.

The Knyaginin Convent was first mentioned in 1200 and was founded around this time by Maria Shvarnovna who was the first wife of Grand Prince Vsevsolod the Big Nest of Vladimir. Its name is derived from the Russian word for princess ('knyagina') and the Russian word for the Dormition ('Uspenie') of the Virgin Mary, to which is it dedicated.
