Vaspurakan (Armenian: Վասպուրական, Western Armenian pronunciation: Vasbouragan) was the eighth province of the ancient kingdom of Armenia, which later became an independent kingdom during the Middle Ages, centered on Lake Van.
Bagrat IV fue el hijo del rey Jorge I (r. 1014-1027) y de su primera esposa Mariam de Vaspurakan, hija del rey de Ani. Bagrat was the son of the king George I of Georgia ( r. 1014–1027) by his first wife Mariam of Vaspurakan. At the age of three, Bagrat was surrendered by his father as a hostage to the Byzantine emperor Basil II ( r. 976–1025) as a price for George's defeat in the 1022 war with the Byzantines.
The Kingdom of Vaspurakan ( Armenian: Վասպուրականի թագավորություն; also transliterated as Vasbouragan from Western Armenian) was a medieval Armenian kingdom centered on Lake Van, located in what is now eastern Turkey and northwestern Iran. It was named after Vaspurakan, a province of historic Greater Armenia. [1]
