20 de mar. de 2023 · The main house, called Marlborough House in 1683, was rebuilt over 30–40 years by Charles, duke of Somerset (d. 1748). (fn. 200) In 1684 he commissioned John Deane of Reading to design a new house. (fn. 201) The old house was apparently demolished and work begun on the new one in 1688.

Joseph and C. J. Smithem, of Finsbury Pavement, (fn. 2) and the builders were Mark Patrick and Son and J. T. Chappell.
