James publicly confirmed his conversion to Catholicism in 1673 and as heir to the throne, this led to a political crisis that dominated English politics from 1679 to 1681.

20 de mar. de 2023 · The main house, called Marlborough House in 1683, was rebuilt over 30–40 years by Charles, duke of Somerset (d. 1748). (fn. 200) In 1684 he commissioned John Deane of Reading to design a new house. (fn. 201) The old house was apparently demolished and work begun on the new one in 1688.
