Martin van Buren (1782-1862) Martin van Buren, Sohn niederländischer Einwanderer und im Staat New York geboren, begann um 1800 sein politisches Engagement als er sich der Demokratischen Partei anschloss. 1807 heiratete er Hannah Hoes, mit der er vier Söhne hatte.
