Mary Eleanor Bowes, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne (24 February 1749 – 28 April 1800) was a notable member of the British aristocracy during the Georgian period in the 18th century. Referred to by some as "The Unhappy Countess", she was a prominent heiress, who inherited a vast fortune.

5 de dic. de 2018 · Mary-Elizabeth was the daughter of Farren Wren and had been born in Binchester, County Durham. She married the Hon. Thomas Lyon on 13 th June 1774. Her new husband was the third son of Thomas Lyon, 8 th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and his wife Jean Nicholson, who originally hailed from Rainton, County Durham.
From the 1400s onwards, the castle we know today has been built and has been witness to many key historic moments including a visit from Mary, Queen of Scots and seen the 5 th Earl go to war to fight the Jacobite rebellion in 1715. Patrick, 9 th Lord Glamis & 1 st Earl of Kinghorne.
