18 de ene. de 2020 · On top of this tomb, we have Mary FitzAlan, who was his first wife. Through her, the fourth Duke inherited the lands at Arundel in Sussex. Consequently, the Howards now live in Arundel Castle, not in Framlingham.

Mary FitzAlan was the third daughter of Henry FitzAlan, 12th earl of Arundel, and Katherine Grey (Lady Jane Grey’s aunt). She married Thomas Howard, 4th duke of Norfolk, c. 1554 and gave birth to their son, Philip Howard, in June 1557.

Mary FitzAlan was never buried at Framlingham but first at the church of St Clements-without-Temple Bar and then, under the direction of her grandson's Will, at Arundel. Norfolk 's second marriage was to another heiress, Margaret daughter of Thomas Lord Audley of Walden.
