5 de dic. de 2014 · Friday 5 December 2014. One of the best-known Flemings in the history of Scotland is perhaps Mary Fleming, one of the Four Maries that accompanied Mary Queen Of Scots. Even to this day Mary Fleming’s life is celebrated in the Scottish towns of Biggar and Cumbernauld. Both towns have long associations with the Fleming family.
The four Marys, as they became known, were the companions and ladies-in-waiting of Mary, Queen of Scots: Mary Seton, Mary Beaton, Mary Fleming and Mary Livingston. In 1548, the four Marys joined their Queen at Inchmahome Priory in preparation for their journey to France.

The queen’s fate is well known – she was beheaded at Fotheringhay Castle on 8 February 1587 for her complicity in a plot to murder Queen Elizabeth I.

Mary Fleming ( / ˈflɛmɪŋ /; also spelled Marie Flemyng; 1542–fl. 1581) was a Scottish noblewoman and childhood companion and cousin of Mary, Queen of Scots. She and three other ladies-in-waiting ( Mary Livingston, Mary Beaton and Mary Seton) were collectively known as "The Four Marys".

Mary, also known as Mary Stuart, was already Queen of Scotland, because her father had died when she was less than a week old. Her mother, Mary of Guise, stayed in Scotland and maneuvered to gain power there, eventually becoming regent from 1554 to 1559 until deposed in a civil war.
