Mary Shelton appears in the series of books "The Lady Grace Mysteries" as a maid of honour to Queen Elizabeth I. She is the main character in "At the Mercy of the Queen" by Anne Clinard Barnhill. Mary Shelton is the first person narrator of Queenbreaker, a Young Adult novel, by Catherine McCarran.
Who was Mary Shelton? Mary Shelton, born between 1510 and 1515, was a cousin of Anne Boleyn, and a friend of Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey. She was part of the wealthy and influential East Anglian circle who were prominent at court, and who provided Holbein with many of his sitters.

Mary Shelton was a cousin of Anne Boleyn and part of the circle of courtiers who surrounded the queen. She later married Sir Anthony Heveningham, the name by which she is identified in the inscription on the drawing.
