Mary was the offspring of Humphrey de Bohun, 7th Earl of Hereford, and Joan Fitzalan. She and her elder sister, Eleanor de Bohun, were co-heiresses to their father’s estate. Mary’s life was marked by a series of events that shaped the political landscape of the time, including being pressured into becoming a nun, her eventual rescue, and her marriage to Henry Bolingbroke.
