11 de mar. de 2019 · Known as Mary of Woodstock, this 4th surviving monarchial offspring would be dedicated to God and veiled as a nun while still a child. When Mary was still a tiny tot, her paternal grandmother and the dowager queen, Eleanor of Provence , decided to retire to Amesbury Priory in Wiltshire , and thought it would be swell to have a couple of granddaughters go with her into the convent.
She apparently held the post of vicegerent and visitatrix which granted her the responsibility to authorize the transfer of nuns between convents. She died about age 54 and was buried at Amesbury Abbey*. She was also known as Mary of England and Mary of Woodstock. *Once the Abbey church of the Order of Fontevrault, now Anglican parish church.

She was a nun at Amesbury Priory, but lived very comfortably thanks to a generous allowance from her parents. Despite a papal travel prohibition in 1303, she travelled widely around the country.
