Around 548 the kings of the Franks placed the border region of Bavaria under the administration of a duke—possibly Frankish or possibly chosen from amongst the local leading families—who was supposed to act as a regional governor for the Frankish king.

She is one of the few medieval women to be remembered for her military accomplishments.

Es casi omnipresente. Vinculada a la familia de los Wittelsbach , dinastía gobernante en Baviera entre 1180 y 1918, el león forma parte de la inmensa mayoría de escudos de armas de sus diferentes miembros.

Símbolo de la ciudad, las torres de la Catedral de Nuestra Querida Señora (Dom zu Unserer Lieben Frau) y sus cúpulas encebolladas dominan el centro histórico. Encargada por Segismundo de Baviera, su construcción duró 20 años, siendo consagrada en 1494.
