The Chapter House museum and events space contains the archaeological remains of the chapter house itself and other artefacts from Merton Priory and the historic industries at Merton Abbey. It is open to the public on Sundays from April to October.

It became an important centre of learning, attracting such distinguised pupils as Nicholas Breakspeare (later Adrian IV, the first English Pope) in 1125, and Thomas Becket in 1130.
