Hace 3 días · Merton Priory Trust is a Charity managing the Chapter House at Merton Priory. The Chapter House museum and events space contains the archaeological remains of the chapter house itself and other artefacts from Merton Priory and the historic industries at Merton Abbey. It is open to the public on Sundays from April to October.
Hace 5 días · Merton Priory, founded in 1114 by Gilbert Norman, Sheriff of Surrey under Henry I, was colonised by canons of the Augustinian Priory at Huntingdon. It became an important centre of learning, attracting such distinguised pupils as Nicholas Breakspeare (later Adrian IV, the first English Pope) in 1125, and Thomas Becket in 1130.
