When in 1547 Catholic troops conquered the territory Protestant prince (the Schmalkaldic War), STIFEL had to flee. As a pastor in East Prussia, he lectured on theology and mathematics at the University of Königsberg (today Kaliningrad), and also devoted himself to the extended new edition of RUDOLFF's Coss.
Michael Stifel o Styfel (1487 - 19 de abril de 1567) era un monje y matemático alemán. Era un agustino que se convirtió en un partidario temprano de Martín Lutero. Stifel eventually ended up in Prussia (arriving there in 1549), where he found a position as pastor at Haberstroh, near Königsberg, in 1551. He also lectured on mathematics and theology at the University of Königsberg. At odds with some of his colleagues and urged on by his former parishoners, he returned to Saxony in 1554.
