Il est destiné à l'état ecclésiastique et, à l'âge de 22 ans alors qu'il n'est encore que sous-diacre, il est élu archevêque de Bourges en 1505, succédant ainsi à Guillaume de Cambrai .

Louis XII had an illegitimate son, Michel Bucy, Archbishop of Bourges, from 1505, who died in 1511 and was buried in Bourges. Death. On 24 December 1514, Louis was reportedly suffering from a severe case of gout. In the early hours of 1 January 1515, he received the final sacraments and died later that evening.

The only reference to his mother is that she was " a woman of the people". Given Henri's year of birth, 1502, Louis XII would seem more a likely candidate for a royal father.
