  1. The Michigan Military Academy, also known as M.M.A., was an all-boys military prep school in Orchard Lake Village, Oakland County, Michigan. It was founded in 1877 by J. Sumner Rogers and closed in 1908 due to bankruptcy. Some journalists have referred to the school as the Second West Point.

  3. The Michigan Youth Challenge Academy is a program of the National Guard and is FREE to parents. There is no obligation for youth to enter the military upon completion. Cycles begin mid-January and mid-July of each year. The application process takes place in the preceding four to five months.

  4. Subsequently, Michigan Military Academy was chartered in September 1877 and opened for 40 students with six instructors. Enrollment had reached 138 by 1883 and settled at slightly over 100. M.M.A. was basically a four-year academy. By 1896 it added a one-year preparatory course, equivalent to eighth grade.
