Production. Three Friends was the band's first self-produced album. The two former albums were produced by David Bowie and T.Rex producer Tony Visconti.. Gary Green's guitar solo on "Peel the Paint" uses an echoplex belonging to Mike Ratledge that Green's brother Jeff, a roadie with Ratledge's band Soft Machine, had borrowed.

15 de abr. de 2024 · Before you know it, you’re listening to the next track “Joy of a Toy”, written by both Ayers and organist Mike Ratledge and sounding nothing like the composition “Joy of a Toy Continued” that kicks off Kevin Ayers’ debut album the following year. The Ayers solo track is more joyful and, in my opinion, better.

It also earned them huge exposure when the CBS label released it internationally, offering Soft Machine a five-album deal.
