Nigel Bruce (4 february 1895 - 8 october 1953) was a British actor who played Dr. Watson in 14 Sherlock Holmes movies with Basil Rathbone between 1939 and 1946. He also played Watson on radio between 1939 and 1947 in The (New) Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the adaptation of the Arthur Conan Doyle 's Sherlock Holmes stories by Edith Meiser .
