Hace 3 días · After the Conquest Elton is found among the possessions of the Brus family, apparently held of Hartness. On the forfeiture of Robert de Brus in 1306 the overlordship must have been granted to Robert de Clifford as an appurtenance of the manor of Hart (q.v.). Elton is subsequently said to be held of the Clifford family.
Hace 3 días · As dependent on the church of Skelton, the chapel of Brotton was probably included in the gift made to Guisborough Priory by Robert de Brus before 1124. Peter de Brus III afterwards granted Guisborough an annual rent of 30s. on condition of the prior and convent finding a perpetual chaplain to celebrate in the chantry of the chapel of Brotton.

Francis Foljambe, Esq.. descended from Sir James, who married one of the coheiresses of Fitzwiliiam, was created a Baronet in 1622. The title, and the elder branch of the family became extinct at his death.
