It was relatively successful at the box office in France, with an attendance figure of over two million. Due to the film's performance, a 2009 sequel was made titled OSS 117: Lost in Rio. A third film in the series, also starring Dujardin, OSS 117: From Africa with Love was released in 2021. Critics outside France gave positive reviews.
