29 de dic. de 2023 · As a result of all this confusion, there are three days which we can celebrate St Osburg’s day on: 21 st January; 30 th March; & 9 th September, with that last one also being the date in 1845 that St Osburg’s Church was consecrated. But despite the confusion, the thing we should all agree on is that she clearly is the patron saint of Coventry.
Osburh or Osburga (died before 856) was the first wife of King Æthelwulf of Wessex and mother of Alfred the Great. Alfred's biographer, Asser, described her as "a most religious woman, noble in character and noble by birth".[1] Osburh's existence is known only from Asser's Life of King Alfred.

Refounded by Leofric and Godiva in 1043 after it's destruction by the Vikings, Osburga's monastery grew into the city's first Cathedral of St Mary, and her shrine was venerated and became a place of pilgrimage throughout the Middle Ages.
