The castle was initially built by Diether V of Katzenelnbogen around 1279 and served as a strategic stronghold for the powerful Counts of Katzenelnbogen, who were influential rulers in the region during the Middle Ages.
11 de abr. de 2024 · Die Burg Katzenelnbogen wurde um 1095 auf Bleidenstädter Vogteigut erbaut. Nach ihr nannte sich seit etwa 1138 ein hochadeliges Grafengeschlecht, das mit den Staufern zur damaligen Zeit in verwandtschaftlicher Verbindung stand. Während des Interregnums erwarb es bedeutende Ländereien.
