Paul Éluard (French:), born Eugène Émile Paul Grindel ([ɡʁɛ̃dɛl]; 14 December 1895 – 18 November 1952), was a French poet and one of the founders of the Surrealist movement. In 1916, he chose the name Paul Éluard, a matronymic borrowed from his maternal grandmother.

Poet Paul Éluard was born Eugène Grindel in 1895 in Saint-Denis, France. He was an only child, and his parents eventually moved to the 10th arrondissement in Paris, where he attended school. Éluard excelled at English and spent time in England as a teenager. He also began writing poetry.
Paul Éluard (born Dec. 14, 1895, Saint-Denis, Paris, Fr.—died Nov. 18, 1952, Charenton-le-Pont) was a French poet, one of the founders of the Surrealist movement and one of the important lyrical poets of the 20th century.
Autor de una poesía esencialmente lírica, basada en temas cotidianos y experiencias de su propia vida. Durante los años 20, se entregó a la experimentación poética y junto con André Breton, Soupault y Aragon dio vida al surrealismo, publicando Morir de no morir (1924), Capital del dolor (1926) y Los ojos fértiles (1936).
