Philipp Julius (27 December 1584, in Wolgast – 6 February 1625) [1] was duke of Pomerania in the Teilherzogtum Pomerania-Wolgast from 1592 to 1625. Biography. Early life. Philipp Julius was the son of Ernst Ludwig, Duke of Pomerania, and Sophia Hedwig, daughter of Julius of Brunswick-Lüneburg. [2] . Ernst Ludwig died on 17 July 1592. [2] .

Philipp Julius, Duke of Pomerania (27 Dec 1584 - 6 Feb 1625) Educated at the University of Leipzig and afterwards travelled, visiting courts in England, France, and Italy. Upon reaching the age of majority, he assumed his position as a duke on 21 July 1604.
Early in 1625 he became ruler of all West Pomerania on the death of the last Duke of Wolgast, Philipp Julius, and on 19 February he was married to Elisabeth (24 September 1580 – 21 December 1653), fifth daughter of John II, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg, by his first wife, Elisabeth of Brunswick-Grubenhagen .
