In 1215, Henry II’s third daughter, Philippa of Champagne, married Erard of Brienne-Ramerupt (c. 1170 – 1246), a nobleman from Champagne living in the Holy Land, who was a cousin of John of Brienne, king of Jerusalem, and gave Philippa the idea of claiming the county of Champagne.

He was a founding member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture in Paris, the premier art institution in the Kingdom of France in the eighteenth century.
