Port Pirie is a small city on the east coast of the Spencer Gulf in South Australia, 223 km (139 mi) north of the state capital, Adelaide. Port Pirie is the largest city and the main retail centre of the Mid North region of South Australia. The city has an expansive history which dates back to 1845.

Less than three hour’s drive from Adelaide, Port Pirie is the third biggest town north of Adelaide and is the perfect spot to spend a night when travelling to the Flinders Ranges, Outback and Eyre Peninsula.

East of Port Pirie’s grain silos, and just next to the ominously named Bridge to Nowhere is arguably the prettiest spot on the city’s waterfront. There’s a stretch of sandy beach here, and a jetty poking out into the creek with ladders for swimmers.
