Port-Royal Abbey was an abbey in Paris that was a stronghold of Jansenism. The monastery of Port-Royal was founded in 1204 by Mathilde de Garland beside the River Rhodon and remained of minor importance until the end of the fifteenth century having declined in repute.
La abadía de Port-Royal de París fue fundada en el siglo XVI para aliviar la congestión en la casa madre ubicada en la abadía de Port-Royal des Champs. Port-Royal, celebrated abbey of Cistercian nuns that was the centre of Jansenism and of literary activity in 17th-century France. It was founded about 1204 as a Benedictine house by Mathilde de Garlande on a low, marshy site in the valley of Chevreuse, south of Versailles.
Built in the second half of the 16th century, the abbey of Port-Royal takes place in the 14th district of Paris. Originally a private mansion, the site was modified in 1626 to accommodate the convent of Port-Royal and declutter the parent company of Port-Royal des Champs in the Yvelines.
