Smitten with him from the day they met, the pair would rule over a golden age of British industrial growth and birth a family tree large enough to place its members in many of the royal courts of Europe.

Prince Consort of Queen Victoria Second son of Ernest, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha; married his cousin, Queen Victoria, 1840, and played an influential role in public life. Noted as a patron of the arts, Prince Albert was largely responsible for the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Prince Alfred was born on 6 August 1844 at Windsor Castle to the reigning British monarch, Queen Victoria, and her husband, Prince Albert, the second son of Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Nicknamed Affie, he was second in the line of succession to the British throne behind his elder brother, Albert Edward, Prince of Wales .

2 de jul. de 2020 · The unification of the United Kingdom and the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was seen as undesirable, so Albert’s eldest son, the future King Edward VII, renounced his rights in favour of his younger brother, Prince Alfred. Alfred was torn between his British and his German futures, but ultimately did rule in Coburg and in Gotha from 1893 to 1900.
