Prince Alexander attended the reburial of his grandparents King Peter II and Queen Alexandra, grand-grandmother Queen Maria, and granduncle Prince Andrew in the Royal Family Mausoleum at Oplenac on 26 May 2013. The Serbian Royal Regalia were placed over King Peter's coffin, having Alexander placing a diamond sabre near to the Karađorđević Crown.

Alexander Yaroslavich Nevsky (Russian: Александр Ярославич Невский; IPA: [ɐlʲɪˈksandr jɪrɐˈsɫavʲɪtɕ ˈnʲɛfskʲɪj] ⓘ; monastic name: Aleksiy; 13 May 1221 – 14 November 1263) was Prince of Novgorod (1236–1240; 1241–1256; 1258–1259), Grand Prince of Kiev (1246–1263) and Grand Prince of Vladimir (1252–1263).
Alexander was the prince of Serbia from 1842 to 1858. The third son of Karadjordje (Karageorge, or Karaðorðe), who had led the movement to win Serb autonomy from the Ottoman Turks (1804–13), Alexander lived in exile until 1842, when the Skupština (Serb parliament) elected him prince of Serbia.

During the night of 20th August 1886, Alexander was awoken by a servant at 2.30am, stating that the Royal Palace in Sofia was surrounded by soldiers and he should escape, fearing that Alexander would be murdered. He tried to escape, but was captured by the drunken rebellious soldiers who forced Alexander to abdicate at gunpoint.
