22 de nov. de 2022 · The very first visit by a member of the British Royal Family to South Africa was in 1860, when Prince Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, the second son and fourth child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, made the journey while serving as a midshipman on board HMS Euryalus.
Prince Alfred (1780–1782) was the fourteenth child and ninth and youngest son of King George III of Great Britain and Ireland and his queen consort, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The prince was baptised by Frederick Cornwallis , the Archbishop of Canterbury , in the Great Council Chamber at St James's Palace on 21 October 1780.
