Prince Christian of Hesse-Darmstadt. Christian of Hessen-Darmstadt (25 November 1763, Bouxwiller – 17 April 1830, Darmstadt) was landgraf of the house of Hesse-Darmstadt and a Dutch general. He was also a keen Freemason, rising to grandmaster.
Retained his brother's land. Hesse-Homburg became under mortgage to two merchants (1671–1673) and to the Landgraves of Hesse-Darmstadt (1673–1679). Prince George William of Hesse-Darmstadt (11 July 1722 – 21 June 1782) was a Prince of Hesse-Darmstadt. He was born in Darmstadt. He was the second son of Landgrave Louis VIII and Charlotte Christine Magdalene Johanna of Hanau-Lichtenberg. From 1738 till his death, he commanded an army-regiment of his land.

In addition to the 17 coffins, the two vessels with the hearts of two princes who died far from home, as well as the epitaph for Landgrave Louis V, the founder of the University of Giessen, are remarkable.
