The Ducal Mausoleum in the Altenburg Cemetery was built between 1839 and 1841 by order of Joseph, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg. It is believed that the remains of his father, Friedrich, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg, were the first to be interred there.
