She wed Charles William Frederick, Hereditary Prince of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel (1735-1806), later Charles II Duke of Brunswick, on 16 January 1764. This collection includes details of their marriage treaty and although this was a diplomatic union Augusta was initially happy with her husband - she wrote to George III in December 1764 that ‘I never knew anybody with a more real good heart’.

In the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, August belonged to the Army of Frederick, Crown Prince of Prussia and commanded as a Cavalry General the Guard Corps in the victorious battles of Soor and Burkersdorf. The Battle of Königgrätz on 3 July 1866 witnessed the decisive occupation of Chlum by his units.
He was the only son of Eberhard Louis, Duke of Württemberg, and Johanna Elisabeth of Baden-Durlach. Frederick Louis, however, died before his father, who survived him until 1733. With his death, without male heirs, the main line of Württemberg became extinct and the duchy passed to a collateral line of Württemberg-Winnental. Marriage
