Frederick Henry, prince of Orange, count of Nassau (born Jan. 29, 1584, Delft, Holland—died March 14, 1647, The Hague) was the third hereditary stadtholder (1625–47) of the United Provinces of the Netherlands, or Dutch Republic, the youngest son of William I the Silent and successor to his half-brother Maurice, prince of Orange.

  3. Prince Frederick, or "Fritz", as members of his family called him, was born in The Hague in the Dutch Republic. His parents, William V and Princess Wilhelmina, already had two children: Frederica Louise Wilhelmina (1770–1819) and Willem Frederik (1772–1843); Louise would later marry the Hereditary Prince of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel and Willem would become the first Dutch King.

  5. On 23 March 1813 Prince Frederick was appointed by Wilhelm IV an officer in the Prussian 2nd Foot Guards Regiment. On 14 April he left for Altenburg, where the headquarters of Blucher were established. He was present in the battles of Lützen (Groß-Görschen, 2 May) and Bautzen (20 – 21 May).
