Harald V (Norwegian: Harald den femte, Norwegian pronunciation: [ˈhɑ̂rːɑɫ dɛn ˈfɛ̂mtə]; born 21 February 1937) is King of Norway. He succeeded to the throne on 17 January 1991. Harald was the third child and only son of King Olav V of Norway and Princess Märtha of Sweden.

New monarchs have been consecrated to their office since 1163, but this has been part of the coronation ceremony. The 87-year-old monarch “is doing well” and is on sick leave until April 8, the royal household said in a brief statement.
