Prince Heinrich Wilhelm Konstantin Viktor Franz of Hesse-Kassel (30 October 1927 – 18 November 1999), known as Enrico d'Assia, was the second child of Prince Philipp of Hesse and Princess Mafalda of Savoy. Heinrich became an artist, set designer, and memoirist after World War II. Life
On 21 August 1884 Heinrich was given the distinction of a Commanding General and two years later, on 18 September 1886, was promoted to General of the Cavalry. On 7 July 1887, Heinrich retired and received the Pour le Mérite ; being the final recipient by order of William I as the latter died in the next year.
Prince Donatus and Floria Franziska are 6th cousins, as both descended from Frederick II, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel and his first wife Princess Mary of Great Britain. The couple's religious wedding ceremony took place on 17 May 2003, attended by royalty and aristocrats.

By 1940, the head of the house of Hesse-Kassel was Prince Philipp von Hessen, who was considered by some to be part of Hitler’s inner circle. It is nearly impossible to write about any royal family in Europe after 1900 without circling back to Queen Victoria of England.

At Flossenbürg, Philipp was held until mid-April 1945, predominantly in solitary confinement, unable to write or receive letters except to Hitler and Heinrich Himmler. Due to his status as a prince, Philipp was given the same food his SS guards ate, and housed in a larger cell that included a wash basin, a table, and even a window.
