Princess Augusta Reuss of Köstritz married the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1849 and Eleonore Reuss of Köstritz became queen consort of Bulgaria in 1908. Heinrich XXIV, Prince Reuss of Greiz (1878–1927), was incapable of ruling and therefore the regency passed to the ruling prince of the younger line of Reuss. [1]

Auguste Reuß zu Köstritz war die Tochter des Prinzen Heinrich LXIII. Reuß zu Köstritz (1786–1841) und der Gräfin Eleonore zu Stolberg-Wernigerode (1801–1827). Am 3. November 1849 heiratete Auguste Großherzog Friedrich Franz II. von Mecklenburg [-Schwerin]. Das Paar hatte sechs Kinder.
Augusta se narodila jako třetí dítě, druhá dcera Jindřicha LXIII Reuss Köstritz a jeho první manželky Eleonory ze Stolberg-Wernigerode. Její rodina náležela k mladší linii rodu Reuss. Manželství. 3. listopadu 1849 se v Ludwigslustu provdala za Fridricha Františka II.
