Sophia and her mother were forced to leave Russia at the outbreak of the Crimean war. After the death of her mother in 1856, Sophia lived with her half-sister, Princess Marie Wilhemine of Wied. In July 1856, at her sister Mary's summer residence Monrepos outside Nassau, she received a visit from Prince Oscar of Sweden, Duke of Östergötland.
Princess Charlotte of Clarence Born on 27 March 1819, Hanover. She died the same day as her birth. She was the oldest daughter of William IV of the United Kingdom and his wife Adelaide. She had four younger siblings- Elizabeth of Clarence, two stillborn brothers and a stillborn sibling of unknown sex.
Princess Elizabeth was born at Norfolk House, St James's Square, Westminster. Her father was The Prince Frederick, Prince of Wales, eldest son of King George II and Caroline of Ansbach. Her mother was The Princess of Wales (née Augusta of Saxe-Gotha).
