Known as the "father-in-law of Europe", [1] he and his wife, Louise of Hesse-Kassel (September 7, 1817 – September 29, 1898), became the ancestors of many members of European royalty.

The younger sister of Queen Margrethe II – who abdicated last year – Benedikte is the aunt of King Frederik X, making her tenth in line for the Danish throne.

This is King Frederik X’s first State Visit following his accession to the throne in January. The Danish King and Queen arrived in Stockholm aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog.
