His paternal grandparents were Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Charles Edward's father died before his son's birth. The boy was born in Surrey, in England, and brought up as a British prince.

14 de may. de 2024 · Josias, Hereditary Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont was the heir apparent to Waldeck and Pyrmont. At the end of WWI, his family lost their Principality as Waldeck and Pyrmont became a Free State in the new Weimar Republic. On 1 November 1929, Josias joined Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party, becoming a member of the SS in 1930.
11 de may. de 2024 · Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont died on 1 September 1922 of a heart attack in Hinterriss in Tyrol, Austria, while visiting her son. Through her son Charles Edward, Helena is the great-grandmother of Carl XVI Gustav, the current King of Sweden.

In 1625, the much smaller County of Pyrmont became part of the much larger County of Waldeck through inheritance and the combined territory was known as the County of Waldeck-Pyrmont.
