9 de ene. de 2017 · On February 18, 1843, Princess Marie married Crown Prince Georg of Hanover, heir to the Hanover crown. He was also a British prince, the son of Prince Ernest August, Duke of Cumberland, who succeeded to the Hanover throne in 1837, following the death of the Duke of Cumberland's brother, King William IV.
13 de abr. de 2013 · Marie was born as a Princess of Saxe-Hildburghausen, but in 1826 she became a Princess of Saxe-Altenburg due to a transfer of territories within her family. Marie had five sisters: Pauline (1819 – 1825), died young. Therese (1823 – 1915), unmarried. Elisabeth (1826 – 1896), married Peter II, Grand Duke of Oldenburg, had issue.

Marie is the eldest child of Ernest Augustus IV, Prince of Hanover (1914–1987) and his wife, Princess Ortrud of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1925–1980).
