Princess Marie of the Netherlands was born on 5 July 1841 as the daughter of Prince Frederick of the Netherlands, second son of King William I of the Netherlands, and his wife and first cousin Princess Louise of Prussia. She was born on her parents’ estate of Huize (House) De Paauw in Wassenaar near The Hague.

Maria Christina, Princess of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld, was born at Soestdijk Palace in Baarn on 18 February 1947. On 9 October 1947 she was baptised at the Dom Church in Utrecht. She was the fourth daughter of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard. As a child she was known as Marijke.
