Princess Thyra of Denmark was the youngest daughter and fifth child of Christian IX of Denmark and Louise of Hesse-Kassel. In 1878, she married Ernest Augustus, the exiled heir to the Kingdom of Hanover. As the Kingdom of Hanover had been annexed by Prussia in 1866, she spent most of her life in exile with her husband in Austria.

17 de nov. de 2022 · Princess Thyra bequeathed the tiara to her niece, Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark, who was married to Hereditary Prince Knud of Denmark. They passed it onto their daughter, Princess Elisabeth of Denmark, a first cousin of Queen Margrethe II, who recently made headlines with her decision to strip four of her grandchildren of their royal titles.
