They can't, they are the main focus of this story, there are a few other characters who could get pulled in, Elladan and Elrohir are my beloveds so I hope they show up (someone please put the Ashmore twins in elf wigs! ️💀) and Legolas is definitely around the fringes of this story (could set up him being sent to Rivendell)
